World Bird Wedneday - Christmas Dinner

When we were at my sister's house in Enumclaw, Washington on Christmas Day, she mentioned having seen a kingfisher swoop down on the community pond and then land in a nearby tree with a goldfish. I am glad I had my camera with me because he did it two more times! These were not small goldfish he was feasting on for his Christmas dinner. It was hard to capture him because of the fading light and having to shoot quickly.

That's a wonderful Kingfisher! One of our favorite birds -- I've never gotten such a good shot. And with his dinner even! Wow!

Great capture; by you both.

I bet he wasn't too popular though, taking the goldfish from the pond.

That is a very cool sighting. I'll bet somebody will be unhappy about replacing the goldfish in the pond. Oh well, hunger first. Nice capture.

What a beautiful Kingfisher you have there. I love the crest and it must have known you were taking a photo and chose the brightest fish for effect.

Fantastic capture! The number one bird I want to catch next summer is a Kingfisher. Fading light or not your picture really shows the spirit of this bird. Amazing stuff! ;-)WBW

What fun!
You got me worried now: Living 100 yards above the Thames, the Kingfishers having come here yet. Well, I never saw any that is. Maybe I ought to net the pond.

What a find! Great photo- these birds still do not look real to me with their over-sized heads.
