World Bird Wednesday - Eagle!

I think this is my best eagle shot so far. Two Saturdays ago I was in the Stillaguamish Valley just driving around looking for birds and saw this handsome fellow on a telephone poll. "STOP!!", I screamed to myself. Good thing there weren't any cars behind me. :) The wind was really blowing that day as you can tell by some of his feathers but he hung in there.

Quit staring at me, Crazy Lady!

The Eagles Have Landed

The return of the steelhead trout and salmon in the Okanogan River also means the return of the eagles. While I see an occasional eagle during the summer months, they are definitely more prevalent once the fish return to the river to spawn.

These four magnificent creatures were only about 100 yards apart just south of Malott where I picked Karl up after he spent the day on the river.

Skywatch Friday #42 - Lone Eagle

Taken this past weekend in Anacortes, WA on Fidalgo Bay. The tree was occupied several times throughout the weekend by one or two eagles.

The sky was overcast most of the day, but late afternoon saw the clouds disappear.

"This is my best side, don't you think?"

More Signs of Spring

I made another trip to Burien earlier today that also gave me the opportunity for some photography.

I went to Eagle Landing Park that is right on Puget Sound. After a short hike in from the road, I reached the top of the steps. Not just a few steps, but 257 of them.

What goes down, must come up!

I started down a couple of flights and then happened to see a pair of bald eagles in a tree off to the side and behind me.

I tried to get a better angle on them but no such luck. So you'll have to settle for this.

Look closely and you'll see two eagles

I decided to skip the trip down the rest of the steps to the Sound and instead headed for a park near SeaTac airport, but not before seeing more signs of Spring.

Currant blooms

What is it? I'm not sure so post a comment if you know.

I felt like I hit paydirt at Moshier Memorial Park. The first jet I saw soon after parking the car was an Eva Air 747 cargo plane taking off.

Then several smaller ones including these two.

Air Canada Jazz
Bombardier Dash 8-300

Then yet another jumbo cargo jet. All in a short amount of time.

It was great fun seeing these colorful aircraft. Sorry Alaska Air - I skipped taking pictures of your plain white planes.

Then it was time to head home.

This evening we had 5 hummingbirds on our new feeder. This is the most we have seen. I wish I could have gotten pictures, but maybe another day.

And to my sis - I'm proud of you! Three more days!!!

Heaven -- Eleven!

I took advantage of a sunny Saturday to go looking for eagles again. I drove up to the Samish Island area and saw this wonderful sight.

Count 'em - Eleven!

"Look at all those fools stopping to take our picture."

There were many people out and about with the bird watching gear and cameras. And with good reason. The eagles were in abundance.

Mister Majestic

What fun it was seeing all these beautiful birds.

Say it Ain't So!

So it started snowing last night, just enough to cover the road surfaces. This morning we had less than an inch on the ground. It has flurried on and off throughout the day, but no additional accumulation. Thank goodness!

Barn in the Stillaguamish Valley

I went picture hunting around lunch time today. I saw several eagles, a beautiful hawk and many bird hunters. My guess is that they were hunting geese so I steered clear of those areas.

It's a quiet Sunday and I'm enjoying it. Hope you are, too.
