Remember Whensday No. 26 - Waaaaa!!

Who doesn't have a photo like this?

This week it's Gregg back in the Remember Whensday spotlight. He was only 16 months old at the time. Every time I look at it I have to chuckle. Gregg was so afraid of the big man with a white beard and red suit. It wasn't until he sat in Santa's lap that the crying began. Santa was so patient.

Luckily, Santa brought Gregg lots of presents any way. And he got over his Santa fears the following year.

Remember Whensday No. 21 - Happy Halloween

Time for another entry in the Remember Whensday meme. This week it's Gregg at Halloween. This picture wasn't dated but it looks like it is from his pre-school days in the mid-80's.

Back in those days, I was a single parent barely making it from paycheck to paycheck. I vaguely remember the clown costume. This was definitely a homemade one. I remember sewing strings of scrap yard to an old blue knit hat for "clown hair". I can't recall if I bought the striped suit at a thrift shop or sewed it from an old bedsheet. Wherever it came from, he made a cute clown and he was happy.

Halloween sure isn't what it used to be when I was a kid. I remember trick or treating with a paper grocery sack and coming home with it full of candy, apples and popcorn balls. Of course, we only wanted to eat the candy.

Nowadays, trick or treating is mostly done at the neighbors you know. Safety prevails. I am disheartened by adults trick or treating under the pretense of doing for their kids. Yes, we've had them show up sans children. I also don't approve of the older teenagers out trick or treating either. If adults want to celebrate Halloween, they should have their own party. Common sense seems be disappearing.

One of my favorite Halloween memories was when I was in my early twenties and going to the haunted house. I watched the Chainsaw Massacre movie when I was a teenager and it scared the heck out of me. At this particular haunted house, part of the journey took you through the haunted woods. Out jumped a fellow holding a chainsaw (the chain was removed) and touched my leg with it. I screamed and ran and near about passed out. At the time I was very shook up, but now I can laugh about it. What a wuss I was!

Remember Whensday No. 16 - Breaking News!

My oh my! I just received some wonderful news! My little man is getting married next April!! I am such a happy and excited mom. I adore Gregg's fiancée, Markey and her girls.

This picture doesn't seem so long ago yet it was. 1980 to be exact. It was taken at Gregg's first Christmas and I sure did love this little boy (still do!).

Gosh, how fast time flies and they've grown up before you know it. I am looking forward to the new additions to our family.

Remember Whensday No. 11 - Happy Birthday, Gregg!

Today is my son's birthday. He is 29 years old.

I should have known from the start he was going to do things his way. He wanted to come into this world face up, ready to go!

Gregg @ Birth

Gregg was always a strong-willed boy who grew into a strong-willed young man. Luckily, the threat of "wearing water" kept him out of the thinking chair and in Mom's good graces.

Yeah, we hit a few rough patches during his teen years, but we managed to maintain a good relationship. Today he is a step-father to two teenage girls and is doing a fine job of it. I couldn't be a prouder mother.

Remember Whensday No. 5 - The Shark Hunter

This week, I'm sharing a picture of my son, Gregg, taken in the summer of 1988. We took a camping family vacation to Myrtle Beach, SC. Gregg went surf fishing and caught a sand shark. He was mighty excited about his shark.
