Barn Charm - Rusty Roofs

Rust...seems to be a theme for barns of late. It's either that or moss. Must be because of all the rain we get in my part of the country. I think it should be the official color for Washington state. :)

Barn Charm - Red & Rusty

This barn looks well cared for, even with the rust on the roof.  The old Fiberform boat could use a little TLC though.

Barn Charm - Hidden Treasure

A few weeks ago, I went driving down a dead end road, more out of curiosity than anything. I crested the hill and there she was. All in her empty glory. At least I think the barn was empty. There didn't appear to be any signs of recent use although the paint didn't look too weathered. I was simply charmed by this big red beauty.

Barn Charm - It's a Green One!

I spotted this barn after breakfast on Saturday so I made a special trip back to take a few pictures. From the front, it had a nice paint job, but I couldn't get a good angle on it with the camera. On the way back by, you can see where the barn used to be red and the paint brush didn't make it this far around. It's got a nice cupola, though.

Barn Charm - Skagit Gem

It's Monday which means it's time for Barn Charm. Hosted by Tricia at Bluff Area Daily, come barn hopping with us by clicking on the barn logo below.

I found this charmer in the Skagit Valley over the weekend. I like the cleanliness of it. So much so I turned around after passing by it just so I could take a picture on the side of a busy road. It is actually a very pale green color but it doesn't show well in the photo. Bummer. I was so excited about seeing this barn I forgot to check my camera settings before snapping away. Oh well, it is still a fine looking barn.

Barn Charm - Mazama Monitor

Its been cruddy weather all weekend so I am diving into my archives. This photo was taken as we drove home one weekend from the CDR last November before the North Cascades Highway closed for the season. The barn is in Mazama, Washington, and is in the Monitor style. I've always thought if, or should I say WHEN, we put up a barn on the CDR, I want a Monitor barn. In the background is the fabulous snow-covered Goat Wall.

Barn Charm - Skagit Farm Stand

This is a produce stand during the growing season and they also sold Christmas trees this past year. They've come a long way from having a wagon from which fresh picked corn was sold to this fairly new barn.

Barn Charm - Tillamook County, Oregon

On our recent trip to Oregon, I noticed several barns with quilt-like squares on them. I wasn't able to get very good pictures. In researching more into this, I found the Tillamook County Quilt Trail. It is a relatively recent undertaking to identify and mark historic barns and structures in Tillamook County. Clever idea!

Barn Charm - Skagit Valley Charmer

While doing a grocery run on Sunday, I took the scenic route to and from the store. I went down a back road that I had never been on and was rewarded with this unique barn find. While it looks like it could use a little bit of loving, it still had the windmill on top, unlike another nearby one.

Let's Take a Drive

The weather was halfway decent today so I took a drive.

I wound my way around parts of Skagit Valley, from Fir Island on the south end to Edison up north. Just before reaching Bayview State Park, a series of new telephone poles were laying along the road waiting for installation.

At Ease Soldiers

I stopped at the state park where I saw a few eagles in the distance. The wind was blowing strong enough for a kiteboarder to enjoy himself. Personally I thought it was too darn cold to be out there, even with a drysuit on.

I drove across country roads that I'd never been on, searching for things that made me want to stop and snap a photo. I was surprised by how many others were out driving around enjoying the day.

I'm trying to learn more about the different settings on the camera. I might get my own so I can continue to take photos when Karl is out with the other one. I believe I'm starting to have separation anxiety whenever I don't have the camera with me. You see things and go "If I only had the camera!"

Say it Ain't So!

So it started snowing last night, just enough to cover the road surfaces. This morning we had less than an inch on the ground. It has flurried on and off throughout the day, but no additional accumulation. Thank goodness!

Barn in the Stillaguamish Valley

I went picture hunting around lunch time today. I saw several eagles, a beautiful hawk and many bird hunters. My guess is that they were hunting geese so I steered clear of those areas.

It's a quiet Sunday and I'm enjoying it. Hope you are, too.
