Remember Whensday No. 28 - 1st Washington Christmas

This week for Remember Whensday, in keeping with a Christmas theme, I am remembering my first Christmas in Washington with my future husband and stepsons. We kept things simple that year with a small artificial tree.

I guess Karl thinks he's a Christmas present.

Karl

Ryan got a Walkman; obsolete technology these days. He also got some clothes and probably a silly gift. Karl got at least one shirt. I can't remember the rest.

Check out the silliness on these two!

Ryan & Karl

Josh got new shoes, pants and a drawing set. And a silly gift, of course!

Josh

Me, I got two little hand towels from my BFF back in Maryland. We always exchanged gifts with cardinal motifs since they are our favorite bird. You won't find cardinals in Washington state. Drats!

OMG, look at those high-waisted jeans I'm wearing! Oh, to be that thin again though.

Sally

It was the start of many great Christmases.

Remember Whensday No. 19 - Here Fishy, Fishy

This week it is Josh & Ryan in the spotlight from Oct 1991. Both boys loved to fish with their dad and of course their dad was happy to oblige.

I wish I knew more about these pictures but unfortunately do not. But it is still fun to share pics of the boys.

Remember Whensday No. 13 - School is in Session

Ahh, school's back in session. For the parents (most of us any way), you can hear the sighs of relief. For the kids (most of them any way), you can hear them whining when they have to get up early that first day back. Waaa!!!

Here are Josh and Ryan, ready to go on the first day of school with their new clothes and backpacks. Ryan was starting 1st grade and Josh 3rd. They were styling in their "Hammer" pants made by their mom and their matching t-shirts. Both boys were probably more excited about their pants than school itself.

"Hammer" pants were made popular by MC Hammer back in the late 80's, early 90's for those of you too young to remember. I can think of one good thing about Hammer pants - the waistband isn't hanging halfway down their butts while the kid's trying to walk. On the other hand, I hope they never come back in style again!

Check out those "Hammer" pants!

I am so glad Karl had these pictures in his stash. I think the boys were adorable on this day in time. You really get a sense of the brotherhood they shared and still do...somewhat. :)

Remember Whensday No. 8 - Playing in the Pool

It's running in the 90's here in Stanwood which is unusual for us. I wish I had a swimming pool to goof off in since we have a couple more days of it coming at us.

The heat wave we are having reminds me of a couple of summers ago when we were in 29 Palms and Palm Springs for Ryan's second deployment to Iraq. It was hotter than hot, 100+ temps. We went to a movie during the day where it was cool in the theater. Then in the evening we'd go sit in the pool at the hotel.

We stayed at the Holiday Inn Express in 29 Palms for a couple of nights. One evening, we had the pool and hot tub to ourselves.

Karl and Ryan are both clowns and had a grand time playing in the pool. I had so much fun watching them and taking pictures.

Squirt!

Acting like a whale breeching

Two Too Silly

We had a wonderful time for those final days before deployment arrived. I'll never forget them.
