Odoriferous

Whew! I tolerated this for about a day and half in my office before I banished it to the lobby. I think I'm still smelling this bloom.

Contact!

I stopped and watched the PBY airplane at the Arlington Airport as the crew started up the engines. Noisy, smoky at first, but cool to see!

Happy

After many months of gray and dreary colors, a bright spot in the landscape makes me happy.

Marmot Babies

This is the first year we've seen baby marmots at the Chicken Dance Ranch. I know some people think they are a nuisance, but I find them entertaining to watch, especially the youngsters as they scamper around the rocks chasing each other. I've learned these are yellow-bellied marmots.

Can you find Mom and 3 of her 4 young-uns?

Chicken Dance Ranch - Project Update

We arrived at the CDR last Friday and were greeted by the sight of our finished kitchen. Ooh la la! It was awesome seeing the gorgeous hickory cabinet doors and drawer fronts installed. We've been looking at open shelving since last August (which was our choice). Now we can hide our stuff behind the doors. :)

On Saturday, it was time to install a different kind of door - of the interior type. We watched a You Tube video published by Home Depot to get a feel for the process. But we were extremely fortunate that our next door neighbor (and cabinetmaker extraordinaire), Robert, offered to guide us through one door installation. That was a HUGE help.

By the end of the day, all six doors were in. Yay!

On Sunday, I started to clear-coat the pine doors. Whew! Even with the windows open, it was extremely odorous. I finally stopped after door #4 and will finish the remaining two on our next visit.

Barn Charm - Rusty Roofs

Rust...seems to be a theme for barns of late. It's either that or moss. Must be because of all the rain we get in my part of the country. I think it should be the official color for Washington state. :)

Better Days

I'm playing with my Photoshop Elements program. I'm not much on processing images extensively, but thought I'd do some experimenting. I saw this house (again) in the Skagit Valley and it's age is really showing now. Hey! The satellite dish is still holding strong though. I bet it was beauty back in the day.

End of the Season

Most of the blooms are off of the tulips now, except for a couple of fields at Roozengaarde in the Skagit Valley. The Roozen family business of growing tulips, daffodils and irises is the largest in the world, covering the valley with more than 1,000 acres of field blooms and 16 acres of greenhouses. Maybe next year I will have time to venture up there when more of the fields are in bloom.

World Bird Wednesday - And Then There Were Eight!

About two months ago, I posted a picture of the Canada Geese pair on our lake and remarked that I thought they were working on building a nest. I think I was right!

Barn Charm - Red & Rusty

This barn looks well cared for, even with the rust on the roof.  The old Fiberform boat could use a little TLC though.

Touch-N-Go

The last time I was in Knoxville on my way to the airport to pick up my rental car, I had the pleasure of watching this Boeing KC-135 Stratotanker do a couple of touch-and-go's at Tyson McGhee airport. The 134th Air Refueling Wing, Tennessee Air National Guard is based there.

This restaurant should be in the Skagit Valley nestled among the tulip fields, but instead is farther north in Whatcom County.
