My World Tuesday - All Aboard

Back in August, I blogged about the new Amtrak station being built in Stanwood. It opened later than originally planned, but this past Saturday the first train finally made it's stop here.

The train was scheduled to pull into the station at 9:03 a.m. It was a cold and somewhat damp morning but at least it wasn't raining.

The New Amtrak Station

While waiting for the Amtrak to arrive, a freight train blew past the platform. I was amazed by the wind it generated. Since I was cold to start with, this made me even more so.

Watch out!

I was pleased by the turnout for the opening ceremonies. Many townspeople came down to watch the happenings. The middle school band provided musical entertainment, a local Boy Scout troop presented the colors, and at 9:28 a.m. the train arrived with passengers including Washington state Senator Mary Margaret Haugen whose efforts helped bring the station to Stanwood.

Here she comes!

Bye Bye!

Hubby and I have enjoyed several trips on Amtrak. I hope the will expand service in the future rather than cut it as has been past practice.

Pretty neat, huh Sally. Now I might jump on and go to Vancouver. It is 9dollars to Mount Vernon---17 miles from me (to much) But only 31 dollars to Portland,. I might do that.
Someting to excite us locals.
Neat pictures. MB

That's very cool that even the Senator arrived on the first stop in Stanwood. The snow plow looks formidable.
So, I'll ask you the same as I asked MB, do you have a ticket to ride?

Nice photos for a well-attended celebration! The huge train stands tall amidst the crowd! I have not been on the Amtrak but I support our subway system.

All aboard!

Nice and clean! SIL takes the train when she comes to visit. We meet her at the Amtrak Baltimore Airport station. It is older and not as nice, though I think there are plans to spruce it up.

Greetings from Australia.
A good set of pictures. I like the length of the tracks in the first one, but my favourite one would have to be the fourth and fifth ones - the lights are fantastic. It looks very dark for 9.30 in the morning though.

New train station - that's something you don't hear often nowadays. And does it mean "a local Boy Scout troop presented the colors"? I'm wandering about the presenting colors part.
