Oh, Deer Me!

Deer in the Methow (Met-how) Valley can be one of those four-letter words. The population is quite prolific and deer vs. vehicle is no laughing matter. So much so that warning signs abound as you drive through.

The saying is there are two kinds of people in the Methow. Those who have hit deer and those who are going to.

At dusk, it is best to slow down to the posted speed limit. This summer especially we have had several close calls. We try to be vigilant as we journey through the valley as I don't want to join the first group above.

I also don't want to become #209.

I know exactly what you mean. I feel very fortunate not to have hit any deer in a very long time. The meadows on the road into the North Rim are Way overpopulated with Mule deer, and they get hit all the time. Along with beefalo and cows. Good not to overdrive the headlights.

Deer here too! In fact, the RV Park manager has posted signs along the road . I guess there aren't as many -- at least not enough for the county to post signs. But we see them almost every time we come home around dusk. And often in the RV Park as well.

I saw those signs when I was there a few weeks ago. We are overrun with deer up here too. Wonder what winter will bring. MB
