On the Bucket List

Space flight has always been an interest to me. As a kid, I had the opportunity to visit the Marshall Space Flight Center in Huntsville, Alabama. With the trip to Florida this past week, I was 10 miles from the Kennedy Space Center Visitor Center with no time available to go visit. Talk about agony!

During my lunch break on one of the days, I took my rental car for a little spin to go get something to eat. Hmmm...it took me to the KSC Visitor Center first! I still didn't have time to stop and go in, but you can be sure on a future trip, it is on my agenda.

Shuttle External Fuel Tank with Solid Rocket Boosters Attached
Crossing the Banana River bridge from Cocoa Beach to Merritt Island, you can see NASA's Vehicle Assembly Building (VAB). According to Wikipedia, the VAB is the largest single story building and fourth largest building by volume in the world. It is here where the space shuttle and external fuel tanks are mated together before the shuttle is moved to the launch pad. All I know is that is was a large building and I wasn't all that close from where I could see it.

I've actually been there. Was very interesting. We went to Disney World and had to venture over that way for my son.

It makes one feel pretty tiny when you know where the space shuttle from that building is going.
We are specks of dust. MB

Hardly looks like a "single" story building. Guess you have an excuse to go back.

Those are great pictures. We did get to go to the space center two years ago when we were in FL. We even had tickets for a close-up view one of the last launches to the space station -- we were so excited. But then it was put off. Talk about a let down! You have to agree that if it is postponed your ticket is dead. Well -- of course we wouldn't want them to take off in bad weather, so it was understandable.

We had to stay in a dreaded motel (don't like doing that any more) because it's too far from where we stay for a day trip -- so we didn't try to go back when it was rescheduled.

When it finally went up a few days later, we were able to see the contrail from our front yard -- but it wasn't quite the same!

We really did enjoy our tour of the Center though. Our pictures turned out kind of bad, so I never wrote a post about the expeprience.

You've gotten way closer to the space center than I have gotten! :)
