The Mighty Fisherman

Karl went fishing with a fellow kayak angler for "dinos" last Friday. That's a code word that I'm not allowed to say what it means. Just in case someone Googles the fish name, I guess they don't want other fishermen in on their secret find.

Karl had "fish on!" twice. The first one was not a keeper since it was over the slot limit (38"-54"). He estimated it was around 80" long. Luckily the fish got off the hook on its own.

The second dino, shown below, was a legal fish coming in at 44" long. Don't ask me how much it weighed because I haven't a clue.

It's a Keeper!

Karl said it was quite a challenge landing this dino while sitting in his kayak. It's a big and heavy fish, plus you are sitting low to the water and in an awkward position to try and hoist it in. After a couple of attempts, he got it in the yak.

A Good Reason to Smile

The dino was a good addition to his Angler of the Year points total. And this was the biggest fish he's caught so far in the 'yak. Go Karl!

I'm just glad I didn't have to clean it.

Wow! That's one mighty whatever, my guess it's around metre n' 10kg. Know couple of fellas who had pike that size, they was aprox those readings. Very nice catch for him and you as a pic. :)

That's a great looking fish. So to mount or eat that is the question.

When I worked for USFWS I saw a "dino" that was 20 feet long. Unfortunately it was frozen because it was confiscated for being over sized. We also had a display with baby "dinos" swimming in it and they looked like cartoon characters to me. Awesome catch. And one of the best fish I've ever eaten. Congrats Karl!

What a huge fish! I have to ask, is it good to eat? What do you do with all of that? Hope you had a big BBQ or something. Hubby says it's a sturgeon, but without knowing where you were, your secret is safe. There's a joke about the guys fishing in a rented rowboat, and at a good fishing spot they find, one of them says he'll mark the place and makes a big X on the boat. The other guy says, "You dummy--what if we don't get the same boat tomorrow?"
