My World Tuesday - More from the Movies

On Sunday, I gave you a closeup of the sign for the Stanwood Cinemas at the Pavilion. Now let's venture inside. This is not your average theater & dining venue, although the exterior is fairly non-descript. The Pavilion recently celebrated it's 10th anniversary of their grand opening in June 1999.

Exterior of the Pavilion

When you enter through the doors, you are "back outside" standing on a cobblestone street. The interior has been designed and painted to look like an street scene from old town Stanwood.

Looking Back at the Entrance

On this "street" are three restaurants -- Amigo's (Mexican), Toyko Sushi (Sushi and Japanese food) and the Dragon Palace (Chinese) complete with indoor and "outdoor" dining areas. Also on the street is the movie theater with five screens, the concession stand and arcade.

Looking Down the Row of Restaurants

What really makes this place stand out are the paintings. On the particular wall shown below which depicts Stanwood a long time ago, depending on where you are standing, you get a different perspective of the street scene.

Viewpoint #1

Viewpoint #2

Look closely at Viewpoint #2 and you'll see the street even has the wiring run from the utility pole. It's attention to details like this that makes this place special.

I noticed this little "shop" while taking pictures and it quickly became my favorite. :-)

I wish I could go inside

These wonderful paintings were done by Jack Gunter and Karla Matzke, two local artists who are very talented.

Interesting to have a street inside a street, with great history, too.

What a cool interior. It's very interesting to see all of that and then photograph them.

What a fun place. I'd never have expected it from the outside. The paintings look so real I might walk into the walls. The name Karla Matzke sounds familiar. Wonder if she ever lived on the WA pennisula near Forks? Great captures of an interesting part of your world.
