Camera Critters #66 - Ahh, Grasshopper

The fields around the Okanogan house are filling up fast with grasshoppers again.

Last year, I thought they were a nuisance. This year the grasshoppers became photo opportunities. :-)

While the photo quality is nowhere near as good as koand's, he sure was an inspiration for me to take these pictures. Dziękuję bardzo, koand!

Funny how blogging can open your eyes to a whole different world. According to my bug book these are Differential Grasshoppers recognized by the herringbone pattern of black on the hind thighs. I think the captures are excellent.

Hi Sally - great photos, although I always think grasshoppers look a bit alien-like though, so I wouldn't have liked to have got as close to them as you did! BFN - CJ

Did you know you can saute them in oil/butter and that they taste kind of like popcorn? No really. Just make sure you take off the wings before eating. (I used to live in Africa where grasshopers were considered a delicacy!)

Fun photo, thanks for sharing.

Such great shots! In Brazil it's considered bad luck to kill a grasshopper. How do you feel about it?

Take care and keep smiling! ;)

Great shots of the grasshoppers. I have seen very few over this way so far.

Those are such cool shots of the grasshoppers, Sally.

I'm more familiar with the green variety and only since I got over here, did I see brown ones..

Re your comment on my blog...I think it's instinct for all dogs to chase things...mine do. But like you, I do say no, which makes the difference. these people were encouraging their dog and laughing.. that's what sickened me about these twits..
